Key takeaways

  • 30 Power. You’re below the first soft cap, so every point is worth the full +1%. Reason: nothing in the first 20 levels carries enough armor for Precision’s crit multiplier to out-earn flat damage.
  • 15 Precision. Gets you to 12% crit chance — enough to make crit-damage affixes on early drops worth keeping — and front-loads the cheap tier before the 50-point wall.
  • 15 Vitality. +180 HP, roughly a third of a level-20 health pool. Reason: early death spirals cost more time than slow kills do.

Excry rewards spreading points across two or three stats before it rewards maxing one. The current season’s coefficients put the first soft cap on Power and Precision at 50 points each and Warding’s practical ceiling near 400, so a character who dumps all 180 points into Power ends up roughly 10% behind one who splits them. The short version: Power to 50, Precision to 50, then Vitality until your HP is about 12 × (Warding + 200) — and only push past those numbers with gear, not points.

One caveat before you spend anything: Excry rebalances stat coefficients most seasons, and the percentages below reflect the current patch. The character sheet’s tooltip is the authority — hover a stat and read the per-point value before you commit to a respec.

What each Excry stat actually scales

There are six stats, and only two of them are traps. Here is what a single point buys you, per the current character-sheet tooltips:

Stat What it scales Value per point Where it stops paying
Power Skill and weapon damage +1.0% up to 50, then +0.5% to 100, then +0.25% 100 points
Precision Crit chance +0.8% up to 50, then +0.4% to 80, then +0.2% 80 points (crit hard-caps at 75%)
Vitality Max HP +12 HP flat, no diminishing returns Never — it only competes with Warding
Warding Damage mitigation, as W ÷ (W + 200) 100 W = 33%, 200 W = 50%, 300 W = 60%, 400 W = 67% ~400, and often earlier once Vitality is cheap
Haste Attack and cast speed +0.6% up to 50, then +0.2% 50 — the animation floor caps real gain near 34%
Insight Cooldown reduction and resource regen +0.5% CDR up to 40, then +0.2% 40; CDR hard-caps at 40%

Two of these need spelling out. Warding is a curve, not a percentage — the formula W ÷ (W + 200) means your first 100 points strip away a third of incoming damage, while your next 100 add another 17 percentage points on top of that. Insight is the classic trap: reaching the 40% cooldown cap from a 40-point base would take about 140 points total, so the last 100 points buy you 20%. Take Insight to 40 and stop unless your kit has one long-cooldown ultimate you’re deliberately building around.

The diminishing-returns thresholds, with the math

Diminishing returns in Excry aren’t a hidden penalty — they’re written into the per-point values above. What’s less obvious is the point at which the marginal point stops being worth it.

Tier Power: gain per extra point Precision: gain per extra point Warding: relative EHP gain per 10 points (at 3,000 HP)
Cheap (first 50) +1.0% damage +0.8% crit chance +4.5% at 50 Warding
Middle +0.5% (51–100) +0.4% (51–80) +3.3% at 100 Warding
Expensive +0.25% (101+) +0.2% (81+) +2.0% at 300 Warding

The Warding column is where most players go wrong. Each point of Warding adds a flat 15 effective HP at 3,000 base HP, but that flat number becomes a shrinking slice of a growing pie. Meanwhile Vitality adds a flat 12 HP per point, which at 50% mitigation is worth 24 effective HP — 60% more per point. The two cross over when:

total HP ≈ 12 × (Warding + 200)

At 200 Warding that’s 4,800 HP. Below that line, put points into Vitality. Above it, Warding becomes the better buy again. This one ratio keeps more builds alive than any gear swap.

Early-game point spread (levels 1–20, first 60 points)

Early Excry enemies have low mitigation, so raw damage converts efficiently and survivability comes cheap:

Skip Haste and Insight entirely until level 20. At low gear levels your cooldowns are short enough that CDR saves you well under a second, and attack speed does nothing while you’re still learning boss patterns.

Late-game point spread (levels 40–60, final 60 points)

By now gear supplies most of your Power and Precision, and the points you add are competing against diminishing tiers:

  • 0–10 Power. You’re past 50, so each point is worth half. Only top up if a gear swap dropped you below the 50 threshold.
  • 20–30 Precision. Pushes you to the 50-point tier where crit chance crosses 40% — the point at which crit-damage affixes start beating flat-damage affixes in your gear budget.
  • 30–40 Vitality and Warding combined. Spend here last, and use the 12 × (Warding + 200) rule to decide which. Reason: this is the tier where boss openers start one-shotting, and effective HP scales linearly while your damage no longer does.

Worked example: is 60/60 better than 120 in Power?

Take a 120-point offense budget and a base crit multiplier of 1.75× (crits deal +75%).

All 120 into Power: the first 50 points give +50%, the next 70 give 0.5% each (+35%), for a total damage multiplier of 1.85×.

60 Power / 60 Precision: Power gives 50 × 1% + 10 × 0.5% = +55%, so a 1.55× multiplier. Precision gives 50 × 0.8% + 10 × 0.4% = 44% crit chance, and expected damage from crit is 1 + (0.44 × 0.75) = 1.33×. Multiply the two halves: 1.55 × 1.33 = 2.06×.

The split is roughly 11% ahead — and the gap widens once you add crit-damage affixes, because they multiply the Precision half and do nothing for the Power half. The lesson generalizes: never spend a point past a soft cap while an uncapped stat is still sitting in its cheap tier.

Sample builds

Balanced bruiser (best for solo leveling and first playthroughs)

Final 180 points: 60 Power, 50 Precision, 40 Vitality, 30 Warding. That’s +55% damage, 40% crit, +480 HP and 13% mitigation, and it sits right on the 12 × (Warding + 200) crossover for a typical level-60 health pool, so no single stat is carrying dead weight. Trade-off: you won’t top any damage meters, and you’ll feel slow against bosses that only reward burst windows.

Crit assassin (best for group damage)

Final: 50 Power, 80 Precision, 50 Haste. Precision’s 80-point ceiling plus Haste’s 50-point tier gets you to roughly 52% crit at the animation floor’s attack speed. Trade-off: almost no Vitality, so the build depends on a healer or on you simply not getting hit. Take it into groups, not into solo progression.

Frontline anchor (best for tanks and PvP objectives)

Final: 80 Vitality, 60 Warding, 40 Power. That’s +960 HP over base and 23% mitigation. Check the ratio before copying it: at 60 Warding you want roughly 3,120 HP before Warding becomes the better buy again, which 80 Vitality comfortably clears. Trade-off: your kill pressure comes almost entirely from gear, so this build is miserable to level alone.

How to choose: a decision matrix

Your situation Allocate Avoid Reasoning
Dying before your second skill rotation 20–25 Vitality first More Power You can’t deal damage while dead; +240 HP at level 15 is a whole extra hit absorbed
Solo leveling with no healer Power and Vitality at roughly 2:1 Haste, Insight Solo content is a survival check, not a DPS check
Group DPS behind a dedicated tank Power and Precision split evenly to 50/50 Warding You aren’t the target, so mitigation points are wasted
Sitting just below the 50 Power soft cap Top up Power to exactly 50 Overshooting to 60 Points 51–60 are worth half as much each as 1–50
PvP or short burst windows Precision and Haste to their soft caps Stacking long-cooldown CDR Burst builds win on crit volume, not rotation length
You’re unsure and a respec exists Hold 20 unspent points Committing all 180 Unspent points let you react to the next gear drop without paying for a respec
